What HireAIScore measures

HireAIScore doesn't rate features or user satisfaction. It asks one question: does this vendor give its customers what they need to meet their legal obligations under the EU AI Act, NYC Local Law 144, the Colorado AI Act and Illinois HB 3773?

Every vendor is scored by HireAIScore's editorial team against a public rubric of seven criteria, each backed by cited evidence. There are no user reviews, no crowd ratings and no paid placement. Maki's score rests on 31 evidence items, 25 of them with a cited source.

  • Technical documentation (Article 11) — 20%
  • Bias audit transparency — 18%
  • FRIA support — 15%
  • Data governance disclosure — 15%
  • Human oversight design — 12%
  • Post-market monitoring — 12%
  • Customer documentation — 8%

The result

Maki scores above the Assessment AI average on all seven criteria.

Maki People's HireAIScore per criterion against the Assessment AI category average: bias audit transparency 80 vs 41, customer documentation 74 vs 58, human oversight design 66 vs 55, technical documentation 64 vs 50, data governance disclosure 64 vs 53, FRIA support 62 vs 31, post-market monitoring 55 vs 38.

Our strongest criterion is bias audit transparency: 80, against a category average of 41. Both of our core engines, Shiro for skills assessment and Mochi for voice screening, have independent bias audits by Holistic AI under NYC Local Law 144, and both reports are publicly viewable. We also score 62 on FRIA support, double the category average of 31, because we give customers the inputs they need for their own fundamental rights impact assessment.

The bar is high, for everyone

No vendor in the directory has scored above 67, and only 9 of the 191 reached a D grade; the other 182 sit below it. That says less about any single company than about where the market is: the rules ask vendors for a level of documentation, auditing and monitoring that most AI hiring tools haven't built yet.

HireAIScore grade distribution across 191 vendors: 0 A, 0 B, 0 C, 9 D, 182 F. Maki People scores 67, grade D.

We lost the most points on post-market monitoring (55), and on the fact that parts of our technical documentation are shared with customers on request rather than published openly. That's where the next points are.

Why it matters if you're buying

When you deploy an AI hiring tool, the legal obligations land on you, but you can only meet them with what your vendor provides: the bias audits, the technical file, the oversight controls. Whichever vendor you're evaluating, ask for that evidence before you sign.
